Goal: Increase the visibility of Canada’s newest trade union and establish connections with key politicians.

Unifor is Canada’s newest trade union, created by the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions in September 2013. Representing more than 300,000 Canadian workers in more than 20 economic sectors, it is also Canada’s largest private-sector union.

Unifor asked our team to help organize a reception on Parliament Hill for MPs to meet Unifor’s first president, Jerry Dias. Delegates from across the country came to talk with MPs about new legislation affecting the Canada Labour Code.

Working with MP offices, we coordinated all of the logistics, securing a room in a key location in Centre Block, organizing catering, and liaising with security. We issued invitations by mail and email to all MPs and Senators and followed up phone calls to 150 offices.

The event was a resounding success, bringing together Unifor delegates with 53 members of Parliament and the Senate from across the political spectrum, including the Honourable Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, and the Honourable Thomas Mulcair, Leader of the Opposition .

Result: 53 MPs and Senators from the four largest parties met with Unifor’s first National President, Jerry Dias and delegates from across the country.

This successful event allowed Unifor to make important connections with key decision makers for future lobbying actions.
